Hormonal Health

Balance your Hormones naturally!

“Find Your Flow” and feel like yourself again, rediscover the joy of being and live life on your own terms!

Hormones – such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, adrenaline and insulin – are special chemical messengers in the body that are created in the endocrine glands. They are extremely important, since they control most major bodily functions, from simple basic needs like hunger to complex systems like digestion, reproduction, growth, movement, sleep, emotions and mood. When they are in proper balance, hormones help the body thrive, but small problems with hormones can cause serious and life-altering symptoms.

Do you have any of the common signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance?

Digestive Health

“All disease begins in the gut.”  – Hippocrates

Are you tired of feeling tired and bloated all the time? Do you want to be able to enjoy food without fear of pain or other reactions?

The health of our gastrointestinal system, host to about 100 trillion bacteria, is extremely important to our overall health and wellbeing. Largely responsible for the critical functions of digestion and immunity, beneficial bacteria in our digestive tract affect our digestion and absorption of nutrients, key vitamin production, hormone regulation, immune response, and ability to eliminate toxins, as well as overall mental health, as in the “gut-brain connection”.

It is critical that we learn how to maintain or restore the balance between the good and harmful intestinal bacteria (also known as gut microflora or microbiota).

Do you need help restoring your gut health? Don’t wait! Contact me for a customized plan and watch your health return!

Live Blood Cell Analysis

What is Live Blood Cell Analysis?

Disclaimer: Please note that this technique is not a diagnostic tool for any specific disease. It is a technique that is utilized to show people how their dietary and lifestyle habits may be influencing their health and where appropriate adjustments may be necessary within these areas in order to optimize health.

Live blood cell analysis is especially helpful as part of a preventative approach to healthcare. The blood comes into contact with almost every cell in the body. It carries vital nutrients and oxygen to the cells and removes wastes from the cells as part of a normal metabolic process. Capillary blood (which is what we use in the analysis) is where the important function of exchange between blood and cells takes place. In other words, this is the site where oxygen and other nutrients transfer from the bloodstream to other tissues in the body. Capillaries also collect carbon dioxide waste materials and return them to the veins for elimination by the lungs. So you can see how observing the functioning of this “terrain” may offer significant insight into how well the body absorbs nutrients and excretes toxins.

Live blood analysis uses whole, unaltered blood viewed under higher magnification to assess the condition of blood cells, plasma, microbial activity and anomalies that are not typically ordered in conventional blood testing.

Live Blood Cell Analysis is performed only by Certified Practitioners using a method called Darkfield Microscopy. The method originates in Germany and it is frequently used by both mainstream and alternative doctors in Europe. Greatly because of the work of pioneering Canadian scientist Gaston Naessens, Darkfield Microscopy is gaining more popularity with holistically-minded health practitioners throughout North America.

The procedure consists of taking one drop of blood from the client’s finger and placing the sample immediately under the microscope. The actual collection takes approximately 1-2 seconds and it is regarded by most people as being pain free.

In Darkfield Microscopy, we observe the live blood cells magnified 1,500 times and displayed on a video screen. What we see are the usual red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and what is floating in the plasma: microbes, parasites, undigested food, fungi, and crystals.

By studying the shape and functioning of red blood cells, white blood cells, and the presence of metabolic by-products and pathogenic micro-organisms, Darkfield Microscopy allows the Practitioner to evaluate the health of someone’s “terrain”. As such, the Practitioner is able to detect warning signs of illness and reveal many underlying issues contributing to someone’s current state of health. Although not a diagnostic tool in itself, Live Blood Cell Analysis will reveal the factors compromising the ability of the body to achieve health. The advantage of this analysis over standard blood tests is the ability of Darkfield Microscopy to detect nutritional disorders sooner, when the problem is in its infancy stages.

What Types of Problems Can Live Blood Cell Analysis Detect?

  • Parasites/Bacteria
  • Fungal infestation/Yeast/Candida
  • Nutritional deficiencies: B vitamin deficiency, Iron deficiency
  • Digestive insufficiency
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Dehydration
  • Immune system function
  • Liver or bowel toxicity
  • Free radical damage
  • Allergic tendencies
  • Uric acid crystal accumulation and risk for gout
  • Kidney function
  • Heavy metal toxicity
  • Atherosclerotic plaque; early recognition of cardiovascular risk factors
  • Poor circulation, oxygenation level and abnormal blood clotting

Many nutritional deficiencies, biochemical imbalances or toxicities can be detected by Darkfield Microscopy long before routine lab tests show any real problems. Early nutritional intervention through dietary changes, supplementation and homeopathic medicines can and will reverse the damage and bring your body back into balance.

Mental/Emotional Health

One of the many strategies to improve mental and emotional health is no doubt to work on improving your gastrointestinal health, since the gut has in many studies been proven to be one of the root causes of mental and emotional imbalances. Healing your gut allows the body to build a stronger immune system and produce the right kind of bacteria that feeds back information to your brain allowing you to feel good again.

Also, although serotonin is a well known brain neurotransmitter, studies show that approximately 90 percent of the body’s serotonin is made in the digestive tract. A lack of “peripheral” serotonin, which is cultivated by certain bacteria in the gut and affects mental health, has been linked to diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, leaky guy, and cardiovascular disease.

Besides improving diet, healing the gut, and balancing hormones, there are other lifestyle techniques and strategies that we can utilize to enhance emotional well-being. One of them is Mindfulness Meditation.

Mindfulness is awareness without judgement or criticism. When we are mindful, we are not comparing or judging. Mindfulness means deliberately paying attention, being fully aware of what is happening both inside yourself – in your body, heart and mind – and outside yourself, in your environment.

The practice of mindfulness has many health benefits that have been backed by science in recent years. To name a few:

  • Lowers stress
  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces depression and anxiety
  • Enhances focus and concentration

As a graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Specialist Program at University of Toronto and a Mindfulness Without Borders Certified Program Facilitator, I am happy to offer the following mindfulness training to adults, adolescents, at–risk populations as well as schools, corporations and government organizations.

“Our true home is not in the past. Our true home is not in the future. Our true home is in the here and now. Life is available only in the here and now, and it is our true home.” (Thich Nhat Hanh)

There’s no denying it: we live in a crazy-busy world. You make dinner while keeping one eye on the kids and another on the television. You eat your breakfast while checking your email or your social media feeds. You pay your bills while talking on the phone to your best friend. You plan your day while listening to the radio and commuting to work. But in the rush to accomplish necessary tasks, you may find yourself losing your connection with the present moment—missing out on what you’re doing and how you’re feeling. Did you notice how you felt this morning or the colour of the sky on your way to work or school? The truth is that most of us are not really “there”, present for our life.

A growing body of research continues to demonstrate that practicing mindfulness can bring improvements in both physical and psychological aspects of one’s life. Being mindful makes it easier to savor the pleasures in life as they occur, helps you become fully engaged in activities, and creates a greater capacity to deal with adverse events. By focusing on the here and now, many people who practice mindfulness find that they are less likely to get caught up in worries about the future or regrets over the past, are less preoccupied with concerns about success and self-esteem, and are better able to form deep connections with others.

Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment—and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness practice cultivates the ability to disengage from incapacitating worry and detrimental or self-defeating negative thinking. This increased capacity for non judgmental, present moment awareness has the effect of giving us the choice to respond skilfully rather than to react in an automatic fashion to external or internal pressures.

Other health benefits of practicing mindfulness:

  • helps relieve stresstreats heart disease
  • treats heart disease
  • lowers blood pressure
  • reduces chronic pain
  • improves sleepalleviates gastrointestinal difficulties
  • alleviates gastrointestinal difficulties
  • reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders

An introduction to mindfulness meditation for the overwhelmed student

Being a student can be really tough. And today, students are under more pressure than ever before. I know, I’ve been there.

No matter what you’re studying, it’s guaranteed that at some points during your course, like when writing papers, performing in class or preparing for exams, you will need high levels of cognitive control, emotional regulation and self-awareness. And ironically, it’s often striving so hard for those things, that makes them harder to attain.

At its heart, mindfulness teaches students to pay attention to the present moment through simple breathing and meditation practices which increase awareness of thoughts and feelings so as to reduce stress and anxiety and boost levels of attention and concentration. Mindfulness practice cultivates the ability to disengage from incapacitating worry and detrimental or self-defeating negative thinking. This increased capacity for non judgmental, present moment awareness has the effect of giving the student choice to respond skilfully rather than to react in an automatic fashion to external or internal pressures.
